The Charged Crusader vs The Galvanic Guardian

Both cool costumes. The only criticism I have is in relation to the Silver Age concept.
Charged Crusader:
The half-mask looks a little funny.
The fins make a lot of sense for super speed, you might be able to pull it off for flight.
Galvanic Guardian:
The stripe pattern is too complicated and modern. The upper body looks a little like Spider-man's pattern, but it's really the half stripe on the leg that looks out of period.
The fade on the emblem is definitely too modern.
And I simply don't like the half capes, though that, again, looks too modern. A full red cape at level 20 would look awesome.
I can see that you're going for the Captain America look and while what you have would be a great contemporary homage to Captain America, I don't think it works as a Silver Age costume. I do like it better, though. Maybe a combination of the two concepts might yield something more period.
BTW, if anyone's having trouble with costumes, I'm using the Silver Age Comics blog for inspiration. It's got covers or art in just about every entry.
Don't worry, I'll be posting my own costume as soon as I'm finished with it so everyone can give me suggestions, too.
I also have a couple of new comments on the consolidated post-50 post.
Crusader's costume is intended for Super-Speed, yes. He's going to be dipping into the Speed pool for Hasten. Super-Speed is intended to be his travel power, with Hurdle to add vertical mobility. I can tweak that a bit to get it more solid. The half-mask can definitely be replaced with something more traditional.
Galvanic's started out simple, but it looked too "blah". I have to remember that most Siver Age costumes were two-color with solids dominating and colored accents added (i.e. the Flash or Shazam, for instance). I'll have to re-look at that and come up with a streamlined alternative.
Thanks for the commentary. It's helpful to have another viewpoint on this stuff.
Oh, by the way, I needed a separate post for this so I could attach the images... I'm trying to keep responses on-topic in the master Post-50 thread. Sorry.. :/
"I'm trying to keep responses on-topic in the master Post-50 thread. Sorry.. :/"
No problem. I figured that out when I was trying to attach the Orleans stuff. That's one of the reasons I'm trying to get this "Most recent comments" feed to work.
OK, the latest version is up. I incorporated some of Eric's suggestions. Namely, full-mask, got rid of the vestigial wings on the sides of the mask and opted for a larger lightning motif, changed the face to a more mature and somber look, changed the belt to simplify and streamline the costume, and darkened the blue a shade to make it less vibrant.
Better?
I think it looks awesome. Just one thing. :) I don't think you need the chest emblem at all. Try that and see what you think.
Looks kinda bland without the emblem... That's the problem.
Wish I could scale the chest emblem to make a better fit... Maybe I'll try another (smaller) emblem instead.
I do kinda like the way the lightning bolts attach to the chest emblem though, as if his patriotism is the source of his amazing powers...
" as if his patriotism is the source of his amazing powers... "
That's fucking funny
OK, *NOW* it's going into his character description :)
Anything that elicits a response like that from Eric has got to be good background material... :P
LOL! Ah, my friends. I didn't agree with a couple of the things Eric had critiqued, but whatever the case, I do think the after product works the best. The pose has got a little to say with it too in that, for our purposes, the poses are still for a great shot. Most silver age image we'd see are in action poses. Eric's got a keen and trustworthy eye, but let's make sure the judgements are gleened from enthusiasm about the proposed looks and not the lack of battle angles ripping evil a new one.
