The Ritki War Zone Needs Our Help!

Where: RWZ
When: Thursday, August 2nd, 7:00pm EST

A pall of smoke hangs over Paragon City. Ritki bomb craters pockmark the once pristine streets of Steel Canyon. Much of Talos Island still recovers from the last raids. Throughout the battered cityscape, heroes and civilians alike struggle to come to grips with the new assault on their beloved metropolis. Amongst the fear, the uncertainty, the despair, comes a common movement. More and more the call is taken up to defend what is dear and precious. Freedom, Justice, and for some, Revenge. No longer will the city stand on their heels and take the onslaught from the Ritki invaders. No, it it time to take the fight to them. To hit them hard again and again and again to force THEM to shift to the defensive. Heed the call to arms. Come and join the Vangaurd corps and drive the battle to the Ritki this Thursday at 7:00pm in the continuing saga... APOTHEOSIS RISING

Flambeau hits 44

Yup, Flambeau Noir is steadily creeping up in level. He dinged to 43 while running around in the Ritiki War Zone with Rob last week, and running around in the Cascade Archipelago whomping on Rularuu and Shadow Shard Reflections for the Arcane Salvage boosted him to security level 44 last night.

Last night was a good night overall. I got some time in while Amy was quilting after the kids went to bed. Over the course of the evening Flambeau leveled to 44, found the Burnt Wings costume piece, 2 Pangean Soil, and one Hamidon Goo (which is good since Cacaphony grabbed my last one a week prior). And the gravy was some of the great recipes that have been coming up. I decided to go with the Red Fortune set enhancements for the new pool power Weave that I picked up. Luck of the Gambler is just insane price-wise since the "quick Katie" task force got fixed, so going with Red Fortune is a good alternative. The set bonuses aren't as good, but it's MUCH more affordable and can be crafted with Uncommon salvage.

I'm getting the hang of fighting Rularuu, too. The Wisps I avoid altogether. That raw psy damage and -Recharge debuff they have is just frightening. Natterlings fly and are a pain to finish off/herd as they run like jackrabbits when they get low on health. Mostly I take on groups of Brutes with Watchers mixed in. Those floating eyeballs have some nasty energy damage and their bite attack is brutal. I take those down first always. Brutes are pretty straightforward, but again, are hard to herd/cluster since they like using their ranged attack instead of closing to melee range.

I'll tell you, getting around in the Shadow Shard without flight takes some getting used to. Geysers are your sole means of transportation, and they do take some practice.

Salvage gone WILD!

Yup, figured it would happen. With everyone running around in Issue 10 fighting Ritki in the RWZ and on the streets of Paragon city, the supply of Arcane Salvage has dried up. Hardcore. I just saw an Ancient Bone, a common tier 2 arcane salvage, selling for over 100,000 influence online. That's more than the "standard" inflated arcane salvage costs for Luck Charms, Spiritual Essence, etc. Holy crap.

What's interesting is that the prices for rare arcane salvage is pretty stable, with the sought-after items hovering in the 3.5M to 5M price range (Pangean Soil, Deific Weapon, Soul Trapped Gem, etc.) Weird as it may be, some of the rare arcane salvage (Diamonds, for instance) is selling around 5-10K each. Tech rare salvage is dirt cheap now with everyone fighting Tech foes with the new issue. Rares are ~5K or so each. Good for crafting if you need them.

There are going to be some rich folks after this. I kinda wish Flambeau were a lower level so he could cruise Dark Astoria wiping out Banished Pantheon. Mebbe I'll talk a lower level character into teaming with me and Exemping down to that level. The salvage demand right now is insane for arcane. 450+ people bidding and 18 for sale. Holy crap. Interesting study in supply/demand to say the least...

Ritki Assault = Raw Chaos

So, the kids went to bed last night, Amy went to the grocery store, and I jumped online briefly to see what Issue 10 is all about.

Warnings were plastered in red all over the chat windows about an impending Ritki assault in King's Row, so I high-tailed it over there to see what was what. Apparently, others had the same idea, and the area outside the train station was packed with people spamming "LFT for Ritki" and "LF Bomb Team" on the local and broadcast channels. Finally someone had the bright idea to make a stand at Blue Steel in the center of KR. I went down there along with a stream of other heroes and wound up on a team with 4 other L50's (one of whom SK'd me). After a few minutes of milling about, the Ritki suddenly started teleporting in. At first it wasn't so bad, but more and more and more of them kept warping in. Along with that, heroes from all over the zone found out that the stand was being made at Blue Steel started flying/running/leaping into the fray.

It was lagggggggg city. We probably had 50-60 heroes all in a swirling melee with Ritki all over that platform around the giant coin in the middle of Kings Row. I'd click powers and wait 3-5 seconds for them to fire. It was like watching a slideshow at times. But, it was very cool. If the lag were better, it had all the makings of one of those epic fights that you see in X-Men or the movies with heroes and villains flying everywhere. Also, I had a bitch of a time targeting anything, as stuff was warping in and being taken out so quickly that movement (with the lag factor) was extremely challenging. Sometimes I got there and attacked, sometimes I overshot the target, sometimes they were "arrested" by the time I got there. Utter chaos, I tell ya.

Anyway, it was fun, but not too risky. Maybe with less people it would have been more challenging, but I barely got scratched and I only saw one person go down in the entire fight... We should try it sometime... : )

FN Buffage!

Well, Flambeau Noir has gotten some additional set IOs thanks to some rare Impervium +Psi Resist IOs that I crafted and sold. Plan for Thursday, July 26th?

Dark clouds swell on the horizon for Paragon City. For the first time since the Ritki invasion, air-raid sirens now sound across the crowded streets of the metropolis. Alien bombs and war parties from the sky now threaten the very fabric of society as heroes rise to shield the innocent. Vanguard has emerged from the shadows to combat the alien menace, their motto: Victory at any Cost. New challenges spring up as Villain and Hero alike unite against a common foe. What role will Apotheosis play in the dark times ahead? Will the fledgling Triplicate villains rise up to protect their own diabolical interests? Issue 10 goes live 7/24

Patch Notes: 7.24.07 Version 15.20070703.6T2

Issue 10: INVASION!
The skies over Paragon City are filled with dark, grey thunderheads. It is the same in the Rogue Isles, Europe, and across the globe. Small ships dart through the heavy weather… and there are so very many of them.

The Rikti have returned.

HEADLINES:
Rikti World Invasion:
The Rikti have been fought off before. But now, prepare for a desperate battle to save Earth from the new Rikti Invasion Force! Aggressive Rikti forces can attack Paragon City and Rogue Isle areas at any time and with little warning!

Rikti War Zone: Heroes and villains are asked to put aside their differences and co-operate to assist
Vanguard, the all volunteer force funded by the United Nations Security Council, to stem the flood of Rikti and their attempts to salvage their downed Mother Ship. Earn Vanguard Merits to obtain new costume items and other cool stuff!

Rikti Co-op Task Force: Lady Grey, leader of Vanguard, has a series of missions for a proven team of superpowered individuals, security clearance 45 to 50, designed to take the fight to heart of the Rikti Invasion!

INVASION!
“The Rikti Return! The Vanguard needs YOU! All super powered beings are encouraged to join the effort! This isn’t about your history, but about OUR future. Join now.”
• The Rikti have somehow found a way to bridge the dimensional gap between their world and ours once again and are staging raids on Paragon City and the Rogue Isles.
• When Zones within the cities are under attack, a world-wide alert will be issued by Vanguard. This alert will show up in your Chat window, warning you in which zone attack is imminent.
• While the invasion is occurring, players do not receive debt while outdoors in an invaded zone.
• Those in that zone that do not wish to be at risk of Rikti attack are asked to take shelter immediately. They can do so by leaving the zone, or moving inside buildings or under cover (overpasses, parking garages, etc.).
• Rikti bombs appear to be unstable and not 100% reliable. Some do not explode on impact and only embed themselves in the ground. These bombs have been noted to detonate after a time, so take caution when you see these. They can be disarmed or delayed by inflicting damage upon them.
Revamped Zone: Rikti Crash Site is now Rikti War Zone

The region previously known as the Crash Site has erupted into a War Zone! All non-combatants are advised to stay well clear of the area!

This zone is now co-operative, Heroes and Villains can both enter into the zone and team together while here. Heroes and Villains cannot fight against each other in this area. They will both arrive into the zone in the Vanguard Base that has been established there.

Entry points can be found in Vanguard Bases in the following zones:

Paragon City:
o Atlas Park
o Founders Falls
o Peregrine Island
Rogue Isles:
o Cap au Diable
o St. Martial
o Grandville

The SWAT entrance from Crey’s Folly is sealed.
• The zone is now scaled for levels 35 to 50.
• While in the Rikti War Zone, debt obtained will be 50% of normal.
• When you enter the zone, Levantera, one of the directors of Vanguard, will be auto-issued to you as a contact. Complete her missions to get a feel for the area, as well as be inducted as an honorary member of Vanguard and be able to obtain merits.
• Borea has repeatable missions for you in the Rikti War Zone.
• Other characters that have missions available are Gaussian, Dark Watcher, and Serpent Drummer. They can all be found in the Vanguard Base
• By joining Vanguard you will earn Vanguard Merits for defeating Rikti as well as completing missions for Vanguard. These Merits can be exchanged for Costume Pieces (of the Vanguard Armor), as well as some other cool stuff. The device for purchasing these items are special crafting tables located within the Vanguard base. Vanguard Merits can not be used at other crafting tables.
• You can view Vanguard Merits earned from the Salvage window under the Special Tab.

Rikti Co-op Task Force:
The UNSC backs Vanguard for billions. With the second Rikti invasion bearing down upon us, the United Nations Security Council has essentially given Vanguard a blank check to cover the costs of fighting the Rikti, “We don’t have time to haggle over budgets,” says a senior level official in the UNSC. “Vanguard has always been about defeating the Rikti, no matter what. We fully support Lady Grey and her team.”
• Lady Grey gives out a Strike/Task Force for 8 super powered individuals with security clearance from 45 to 50. The mission attempts to stop the Rikti before they can get a foothold in our dimension. Be wary, the Rikti are single-minded in the pursuit of their objectives!
Take the fight to the crashed Rikti ship!
• The Rikti have erected energy pylons throughout the area surrounding their crashed ship in the Rikti War Zone. Vanguard engineers have discovered a way to detect Rikti Pylons. To view waypoints to these pylons, check the ‘Special’ option in your map display window.
• Destroying all pylons before the Rikti can replace them, will lower the shield on the Rikti Mother Ship in the zone.
• Heroes and Villains are asked to plant explosives inside the ventilation systems of the ship to cripple the Mother Ship repair effort the Rikti have in progress.
• Once enough bombs are planted, the Master at Arms will arrive to clear out non-Rikti interlopers!
• Characters that participate with this will be rewarded with Vanguard Merits.

Rikti Villain Group Revamp
• The Rikti Villain group has undergone an art and powers revamp.
• The new art vastly upgrades the look of the Rikti and now allows us to use more animations with the Rikti soldiers.
• One major change is the Rikti swords now have a ranged energy weapon in them, allowing them to use both melee and ranged attacks without switching weapons.

Powers
Added support for villain archtypes for Kheldian inherent bonus powers. Here is the new help text:
• Kheldians naturally thrive off the energy and essence of their teammates. Warshades’ absorbing nature allows them to draw on the power of their teammates’ power to increase their own. Your Damage Resistance will increase for each nearby Tanker, Mastermind, Corruptor or Defender teammate. Your Damage will increase for each nearby Scrapper, Stalker, Brute or Blaster teammate. Finally each nearby Controller or Dominator teammate will grant you limited Protection from Control effects. You cannot put Enhancements in this power.
• Kheldians naturally thrive off the energy and essence of their teammates. Peacebringers’ metamorphic nature allows them to bring balance to their team. Your Damage will increase for each nearby Tanker, Mastermind, Corruptor or Defender teammate. Your Damage Resistance will increase for each nearby Scrapper, Brute, Stalker or Blaster teammate. Finally each nearby Controller or Dominator teammate will grant you limited Protection from Control effects. You cannot put Enhancements in this power.
• Jack Frost pets and Animated Stone pets should be more willing to engage in melee combat due to a change to their AI values.
• Crey Juggernauts will turn off their Personal Force Field after 15 seconds rather than leaving it on indefinitely.
• Bitter Ice Freeze Ray’s attack time has been shortened from 3.7 seconds to 2.5 seconds for both Blasters and Corruptors.

Critter Powers
• Critters with area of effect Confuse powers have had the duration of those powers greatly reduced.

• Minor camera shake added to some Super Strength hit effects.

Flambeau hits 42

Yep, Flambeau Noir hit security level 42 last night. My buddy Specimen popped online while I was checking the market and wanted to run some missions. I was happy to oblige and since my missions were filled with +4 to +5 enemies for her, she was raking in the XP. So was I, albeit at a lesser rate.

Next level is exciting as I'm planning on taking Weave and slotting it heavily (6 slots) to open up a combo of 4 Luck of the Gambler IOs (Defense, Def/End, Def/Rech, Def/End/Rech) and 2 Gift of the Ancients (Def/End, Def/End/Rech), which will cut toggle cost roughly in half and hit the ED cap (and then some) for the Defense boost.

Global IO bonuses for that slotting should give:
+10% Regen (caps the 10% regen bonuses, the "rule of 5")
+1.13% Max Health
+9% Accuracy (all attacks, caps the 9% acc bonuses, the "rule of 5")
+2% Recovery

Note that the capped assumption is predicated on slotting up the other two pbAoEs (Blazing Aura and Consume) with Scirocco's Dervish (4 slotted min). Still working on acquiring the salvage/recipies/influence required to pull those off, as Scirocco's Dervish is a VERY popular set.

In the current build, I'm avoiding the Epic power pools in favor of dipping into the pool powers to optimize the build. Fitness is the obvious one, as Health and Stamina are almost a required selection for Tanks. Hasten drops cycle time across the board on my AoEs and Healing Flames with an impact to End usage (I burn through the blue bar more quickly). The Fighting pool (Boxing, Tough, Weave) add to the defensive capability of the Fiery Aura primary, specifically adding much needed S/L Resistance and added Defense. The Leaping pool (Combat Jumping, Super Jump, Acrobatics) is required for status protection (Immobilize/Knockback) due to the holes in the coverage provided by the Fiery Aura primary. That leaves little room for Epic power pool choiced until way late in the build (high 40's). The up-side is that the pool powers enhance both damage output and survivability for the build, particularly once the IO set bonuses come into play.

Flambeau's becoming a very interesting project... : )

Cheers!

Great Planning Tool for IOs

Link here to the website:

Converts recipes to needed ingredients (based on level desired). Also summarizes all recipes that use a specific ingredient. Hovering over the ? will also bring up a list of the global bonuses for the set. Interesting database. I'll have to use it when planning Consignment House runs.

Thanks for another fun Tight Night

Hey guys,

I appreciated the session last night with you two. I realize Rob was handicapped and Eric ended the evening just this side of incoherent, but I had a great time.
I put in bids with Mantlet to get some magic SO's and I'll check those tonight to see what I bought. Getting some decent capability in Mantlet's enhancements is gonna be a short term priority. Now that he's getting close to the end-game (taking L50 IOs, etc), I need to rethink his slotting and build. Particularly where the Damage enhancements go (two L50 IOs are damn close to three SOs at the ED cap). I also need to think about a setup that supports the Set enhancements to get the global bonuses. That gets tricky, since that kind of "optimized" build is gonna take a trainload of cash, KHEX runs, and rare salvage drops. I'm not sure that I want to put that kind of time into Mantlet right away. He's part of our prime set and I'd like to keep him "old school" for a while.

Anyway, I may jump online sometime with him and join some 8-man teams (if I can find any that are not farming/bridging/PL'ing) to get those 3 bubbles so Orleans and I are at the same point as far as XP goes. I've noticed that our leveling has slowed down a lot since we pushed past L45. Hopefully there is another Double XP weekend brewing in the next 3 months that we all can participate in. Eric's been missing out and I've been reluctant to play Mantlet and create a gap between our (Eric and I, anyway) two highest characters. We'll get there, though. Mebbe we all roll PeaceBringers/Warshades then and go nuts in the Hollows... : )

Anyway, we'll see what happens. I logged Flambeau for a bit after you guys left to get that little sliver of XP needed to bump him up to L40. Now that he's at 40, the CoT in the Abandoned Sewer system should be Green/Blue/Yellow to him, which is perfect for working the salvage drops. Hopefully I'll get lucky again. The spawns there have an inordinate amount of bosses in them, so each boss has a 25% chance to drop salvage. LTs are 16% and minions 8%. With a spawn of 12 or so with 4 bosses in it, odds are I'll get 1-3 salvage drops per spawn. All arcane salvage too, which is the sweet spot in the market right now.

Oh, and I did some thinking last night about Eric's 30M profit. If you could post a little about your methodology there, I'd appreciate it. Sounds like with the right startup capital, you can really make hay if you do it smartly (I assume with L50 IOs). I have a vault full of rare salvage I can always liquidate to make more influence, but I'd like to have another option and Eric's methodology sounds intriguing... : )

Thanks again guys, I had a great time.

Abandoned Sewers

Well, I had a great run last night looking for salvage. My buddy Specimen logged in last night and wanted to clear a mission in the Abandoned Sewer system. That suited me fine, as Flambeau likes to run in there, but I rack up some big debt throwing down with the boss-heavy CoT spawns in there. Together we ran through the sewers for about 2 hours (teamed). In that time I had 6 rare salvage drops, 5 of the 6 being Arcane salvage.

In total, I scored:
* 1 Deific Weapon
* 2 Empowered Sigels
* 1 Enchanted Impervium
* 1 Hamidon Goo
* 1 Military Cybernetic

I was freaking amazed at the salvage drops, as the spawns are big, but not unduly so. Perhaps the difference is the saturation of bosses in the spawns, both Ritki and CoT. I'd run into a group of 12 CoT and 6 of the 12 would be Death Mages (with their damn accuracy debuffs). Anyway, for level 38-40 characters, the Abandoned Sewer network seems a great place to "streetsweep" for salvage and recipie drops. I got very lucky last night, but on the whole, finding Arcane enemies in that level range is next to impossible outside of radio missions.

Cheers!
