Extra IOs in the Bin...

OK, I got pretty lucky tonight on the market. I went and did a series of rolling 10K bids for pre-crafted Level 25 Set IOs. I picked up 9 of them, mostly oddball ones, but useful. Defense, resistance, pet damage, melee damage, targeted AoE, etc. They are in the bin, feel free to use any that look attractive. Stuff like Red Fortune, Titanium Coating, etc.

Total expense was 90K for all 9, so you can reimburse me if you have a guilty concience or want to be sure you are paying your own way. The -Knockback IOs are still in there too. Grab one if you want them.

See you on Thursday.

Dude, it's not just 90K. It's also the Inf. to craft them and probably the cost of missing salvage, usually the expensive stuff. Plus, had you sold them you'd have to include the additional entry fee and final value fee in the transaction overall. Since you didn't I guess one could argue we should also owe you at least a fraction of what you could have made on it, profit-wise.

I know this is not the place you're coming from and I am not trying to get us to think or act like this. In fact, I am very thankful for shared wares in our bases, of late especially the titanium coating. You are always welcome to anything I can scrounge up, craft, get from drops, etc.

I am only very, very, very concerned about your time. I know you're good at managing it and all, just five minutes here and ten there. Still, I can't shake a three-fold feeling of concern for you. One, I don't want you to think this has become expected. You have plenty of roles to fill in our group and you do them all masterfully. Two, you work hard. If you can get the time in-game that we sometimes cannot, I'd like to at least think you are spending the best portions of it playing. While Ater and Peltier indicate smooth sailing in that regard, I don't ever want our teams to become unfun for you. Third, maybe it's just me, but I do find it hard to reciprocate. Given so much less player time on the market for all toons, I never quite have too juch to give back to you. If I can afford to craft it, it's usually for me or for sale just to cover the creation cost. Plus, we never quite have enough toons higher than your alts to help out. Yours are always trickling down the goodies to us.

Again, I am very thankful for your rewards and given what I am perceiving as the lesser inf. now earned over the quicker leveling rate with XP smoothing, I don't see how my toons could survive otherwise. You are now making up a significant portion of the difference between a playable toon and a broke and unplayable one. I just think you deserve some kind of break. No?

If I couldn't squeeze it in, I wouldn't do it.

Time wise, now that Sam and Mary are reliably both going to bed before 10:00pm, I have time in the evenings to poke around online. That's a big change from where we were a year ago. Both Amy and I now have time to do things that we just haven't had since Sam was born 4 years ago.

We set aside time during the week for "date night" where every other week we have a sitter watch the kids so we can get some real couples time in. The off-weeks we snuggle up on the couch and watch a movie or just hang out and talk.

The rest of the nights of the week are pretty flexible. Tuesdays are Amy's night out. I watch the kids for the evening and she can get out of the house and spend some non-kids time as an adult. She'll hit the movies, do some shopping, hit the bookstore or library, etc. She also has periodic events like Midnight Madness to liven things up a bit.

The extra time has allowed both of us to pursue our hobbies that we shelved for a while. Amy's getting back into quilting again and is having a lot of fun planning and designing quilts for a variety of purposes. She's experimenting with free-motion quilting on her machine now with some great results. Truthfully, it's heartwarming to see her getting excited about something that she was reluctant to give up. She's got an amazing amount of talent, and it's nice to see her enjoying an activity that makes her feel so happy and accomplished.

Gaming at night with CoH is somewhat the same for me. Since CoH doesn't have the time commitment some MMO's demand, it's accessible for me. I can spend 10 minutes working the market while waiting for the shower in the morning and then log off. No problem. Similarly, at night I can indulge in some big-team action and drop the hammer with some of my alts.

I appreciate the desire to make sure I'm OK. Truthfully, it's cool. Shortly I plan on going back to school for my MBA, probably a few months away now with my new job ramping up. As such, I'm gaming a little more than I normally would. Kinda like staying out late on a Saturday and Sunday knowing there is school on Monday... Anyway, it's a nice diversion for me. Entertaining and essentially free. I'm conscious of our finances lately with Sam's speech therapy, preschool, and preschool for Mary on the horizon. Going out on the town for movies, bookstore, shopping etc. burns cash. Playing online is something "just for me" that's low-cost and lets me listen to the baby monitors so if someone wakes up or needs a parent, I'm right there. I sometimes joke with Amy that it's better than me being out at the bar.

As far as my playtime causing me to be dissatisfied with our Tight Night sessions, you shouldn't worry. PuG's are OK, and even some of the folks I team with regularly are fine. But "Tight Night" for me is about getting together with friends. It's like getting together for poker night... You are not feeding your gambling addiction (in most cases), it's just an excuse to get together with friends and have fun. The venue (CoH) works given our other life demands and geographical distances. Not as good as going to Igloo for a waffle, but not a bad option either. Truth is, I enjoy our game time as a group for some very non-game related reasons. So don't sweat it. I make a point of not playing our shared characters. That's what my alts are for.

Solo time for me is about game mechanics, the numbers, and the challenge of mixed groups with absolutely no idea of the skill levels. It can be nerve wrackingly entertaining. You guys are so much different to play with, as I TRUST what the hell you are doing. Makes it so much easier to just kick back and play. That's gold for me.

And I understand the reciprocation thing. That's why I understand if you want to forge your own way in the game. My motivation for trying to assist with IOs and such is twofold. One, I have the time and accumulated knowledge to work the market, make purchases, etc. that you and Eric may not. Secondly, with the new XP smoothing, characters are leveling faster than ever. That means less drops, less accumulated influence, and less opportunity to afford IOs and enhancements outside of working the market, which also takes time.

My rationale was that I wanted you guys to be able to spend your very precious in-game time playing and having fun. Not scrimping and saving (although, that too can be fun) or having to farm arcane foes and work the market. Influence rains from the sky with the new market system, and it's easy enough for me to dip into that deluge to help you guys out. Absolutely no problem if you don't want the help. I'm just trying to give you the CHOICE. However you want to have fun is fine by me, no limits or mandates on how you do that. Hell, the game is 100% playable with SOs for cripes sakes. We did it for 8 of the 11 issues that amounted to almost 3 years. People tend to forget that...

Just remember, CoH is my break. I play it for fun when time allows. Family and work come first, but in-game time is a little selfish time just for me. I enjoy the hell out of it, both solo and especially with you guys on Thursdays.

My life (within a small deviation) is very balanced right now. Don't fret on that account. It's all good. Just have fun and don't worry about the other stuff. If you see me playing WoW and playing until 4am farming Living Essence off Tar Lords in un'Goro with a 1.5% drop rate... Then start worrying.

Oh, and the 90K for the 9 IOs was just 90K. I bought them all pre-crafted. No salvage, no crafting fees, etc. Just the 10K each.

THAT is what made them great deals. Hell, the crafting cost alone for those would have been about 40-50K each. 10K is way under cost for those. Hence my delight in picking them up.

Cool, cool. I figured a periodic checking in never hurts. Sort of a State of the Salvager Address and all.

Thanks abounding.
