POLL: What's fun in CoH?

For me, I think the answers are far from mysterious. My fun factor is definitely role play. While in my early months of play with PUGs there was a lot more role play because we spent a lot more time waiting for stragglers to show up at missions...and...oh yeah...dead, our Apotheosis borderline expertise as a consistent group has now narrowed down that role play to a few cheesy puns and observations. I love those. I was a big fan of Spider-man and his Amazing Friends cartoons on Saturday morning and cheesy puns were part of the hero repertoire. I am only sorry that my new “office” configuration at home allows me to type in chat so much less.
I think I like blasters best. Sure, they are debt-ridden corpses, but there's just something about taking down a flying moron three levels up with a nice blast that sends him falling to a punctuated death (um apprehension). With that theme, it shouldn't be hard to put two and two together (love of Ice Man and Blasters) to note that I like the ice powers above all others. In that same way, I find something very rewarding about a good use of defiance. “It’s coming, it’s coming, I’m gong to die, stay strong hero…OOOHHHH DENIED!”
I look forward to all new content, certain missed task forces, more Vanguard Merits, financial solvency on all characters, Triplicate, getting better at PVP, my unlocked classes from hitting 50, The Incredible Squad, killing the giant squid, a pet, an Endo/Fjord showdown, arena play, the first double XP weekend where we can all play together consistently, facing more arch-villains, and our lvl 50 ideas.
I'll have to admit that there are several elements of the game that keep me coming back for more.
First is "Tight Night" with you guys. Being able to engage in some cheesy puns, 80's jokes, trash talk, and such is just priceless. It also makes the game content much more meaningful when it's shared with people you know. We also tend to have a high level of trust, which is a comforting backdrop for "play time" on Thursdays. No power-leveling or farming, just good old-fashioned "go play superheroes".
As far as solo play, I like that as well, as it gives me flexibility to really explore elements of the game that I wouldn't burden you guys with... Like exploring the Abandoned Sewers, testing build strategies with different characters, and learning from other players (both good and bad). Playing characters like Ater Custos are fun, since I can just log in and play anytime without worrying about out-leveling people, etc. No commitments.
Content-wise, I love that the game still feels "heroic" after these 2 years. I still get that little thrill when leaping over buildings or hopping down and seeing the cape billowing behind you. I love the animations, the power effects, the auras, and yes the Costume options. After all this time, the costume tool is still a mini-game to me.
I also absolutely love the Invention system and the consignment market that came with it. For a "numbers" guy like me, it adds an entirely new dimension to the game. Two characters with identical powersets can have completely different characters based on IO set selection (or lack thereof) once you factor in set bonuses, etc. What a difference it makes for me...
I seem to have an affinity for melee characters in the game. The mix of direct confrontation and survivability just seems balanced to me somehow. Tanks are still my favorite character class in the game though. Scrappers are fun, but my inner Paladin craves the Tank class more than any other. The variability within the Tank class also makes it an interesting challenge. Tankology is my first Ice Armor Tank, and it's looking interesting (being a Defense based set as opposed to a Resistance based set).
I look forward to the frequent release of new issues, finding time to run a Respec trial with you guys (that one foray in Terra Volta with you guys was my last exposure to one). I'll also echo Rob by saying PvP, Arena, and more Giant Monsters. I'm also dying to get the rest of the vet rewards, particularly that damn Nemisis Staff that I see people whipping out.
